fannishness, misc.
Think I've just about recovered from Yuletide now - or, at least, emerged from the total brainsuck that starts when fandom nominations open and ends with replying to comments on reveal-post. That's it, until October '09.

2009. o.O (Still getting used to that new number.)

Spent a little time spring-cleaning at FF.net, as I usually do around January - fixing or updating whatever needs attention. Finally finished dealing with FF.net's decision to remove the PRE tag from their severely restricted list of permitted HTML; sometime in mid-2008? I wasn't paying attention, so I don't know if they actually warned authors about this (probably not). First I knew of it was when some puzzled reviews came in. My Seuss parodies and the old SS/HG parody had been up there for years in nice harmless Courier, just how I wanted them - until the PRE tag vanished and took all their line-breaks. *headdesk* I fixed the Seuss parodies in August, and dealt with PtQ in a Nutshell just now.

Finally finished watching season two of Rome. (Got the DVDs last year, but distraction struck two episodes from the end.) Antony/Cleopatra incredibly cheesy. Servilia wins. Octavian: casting excellent, characterization middling. Must take another look at those Vorenus/Pullo Yuletide fics.

Haven't even looked at HP seasonal fests yet. This week I'm having another go at finishing that Little Women het melodrama, so I've nudged my brain into Alcott mode. Wish me luck.

P.S. I don't give a skrewt who the new Doctor is.
P.P.S. Only three days till Snape's birthday!

Are you doing Cat's Birthday this year?

Probably. I want to. So yes, there will be a Drabblethon unless RL draws me away from fandom in April.

Good luck with the Little Women drama! If it`s the one you did for Yuletide 2006, I loved it.

Thanks! Glad to hear that! :) - Yes, that's the one. It really needs a conclusion.

Best P.S. ever.

I haven't seen season two of Rome yet. I keep meaning to catch up with it, too, because Atia.

Atia, yes! If I remember to think of her as mostly-OC, I do enjoy that character (la-la-la, historical accuracy, I can't hear you!) - and she has plenty of memorable moments in the second season.

What annoys me at ff.net is the fact "-" magically disappears when you upload fics. So most of my fics end up with no scene breaks.

That does suck, yes. I'm using the HR tag for scene breaks if really necessary - ugly, but at least it doesn't disappear.

I'm having enough trouble with <pre> and <code> in my LJ posts (I needed to post the HTML for the spacetime curvature equations around a rotating black hole of all things), so at least I've been pre-warned about this tag-removal. I'm considering moving my fics permanently to LJ instead of archiving on ff.n - but in the meantime I'll take bets on the date of "The bold tag is verboten!" message from ff.n.

Good to hear the PtQ parody is fixed: "Either I can't read it or your no-line-breaks parody is too avant-garde for me," is not the sort of review I suspect you'd like. I did try reading it at witchfics.org, but without fail the inverted commas turn into question marks on that site. Grrr...

(Right, this thread was months ago. Get that.)

I gave up on ffnet years ago, over some other dropping of tag support; I don't recall which tag, now. If they've dropped "pre" though, the ffnet version of Blood Magic has important sections that are now unreadable. Thinking about this, I realize that I probably never changed my email address there, so I wouldn't notice.

Oh, I kinda remember this post. :)

Yes, all added to the list of Things FF.net Has Done. Like making it impossible to put any URLs in fics or reviews or personal messages to other users. Like stripping the / character (among others) from summaries, causing no end of confusion in ship-identification - though this only lasted a couple of years, they've brought back the / now.

Hope the FF.net version of your fic survives.
