So now anyone with red hair looks alike, huh? Gotta go back and find where JKR wrote that one.... ;)

Very untrue.

Apart from having red hair, I don't see any resemblances. Plus, I see even their hair as being different red; I've always thought of Ginny as having hair that, on some days, could almost pass for strawberry blonde, and Lily as having the sort of red hair that sometimes looked brownish. I'll grant you, redheads, like people with black hair, often have similar features, but not always, and nothing JKR or the books have said has indicated that Ginny and Lily look alike, unless I am mistaken.

Because any guy with a girlfriend who has the same hair color as his mother MUST have Oedipal issues. ::rolleyes::

Are all gay men really lusting after their fathers because they're also *gasp* MEN?

Harry never even KNEW his mother. Now Ron, OTOH--Hermione is a heck of a lot like Molly... read into THAT what you will. ;) But at least that's about personality and behavior, not a shallow thing like hair color.

You're right... never thought about that.

Although I freely admit that I find attractive men who are in some ways like my father - taller than me, beards are good, darker hair colours, artistically or quirkily inclined. But I don't want to marry my dad, nor do I want to marry someone who is entriely like him - I would prefer a husband who likes to dance, who has a decent business sense and a slower temper and who isn't the child of alcholics.

No discussion of this topic is complete with a link to the Venn Diagram of Oedipal H/G: http://mpuppet.livejournal.com/29336.html

And who on earth is voting 'cute'/'touching' etc? (I could just go check the results for the poll, I suppose, but undoubtedly someone I know will be on there or something, and I'll end up gravely insulting them.) I mean, people finding H/G cute or likeable in anyway (and I'm non-partisan when it comes to Harry shipping, really, so this isn't a plea for H/Hr or H/L or whatever.) is baffling to me, but I can see why people might disagree, but actively thinking it's sweet that his girlfriend resembles his mum? Er...
Mind you, that (and it's not just a hair thing, there's also direct paralleling of them in both canon and interviews) coupled with Ron/Hermione doubling for Arthur/Molly at times (as both Harry and Ron note) says something squicky about JKR...

I don't think Ginny looks like Lily and we don't know enough about Lily's personality to make that comparison, but I do find it squicky that some of the Harry/Ginny shippers seem to think that the resemblance is a key part of their relationship.

So, er ... do all the people who voted "squicky" categorically refuse to date everyone with the same color hair as one of their parents, ever? How does that work out? Considering that there are only about four major hair colors, that could knock out half or more of the population if your parents don't have the same color hair as each other, and if your parents have black hair and you happen to live in Japan or something, it seems to me that you'd be really screwed...

I don't really think it's sweet or cute that his girlfriend looks like his mom, but it is realistic that people are attracted to personality traits of their opposite-sex parents. Dunno about physical traits though, and that's where it might become squicky for me. I get heavily turned off by guys that look like my dad. o_0; So if we're defining it on the basis of physical and not personality traits, then yes it could be a bit squicky. Though Harry never really knew Lily, so maybe not. I dunno. But it's not altogether unnatural/unrealistic of Harry to be attracted to someone that acts like his mother.
